Wellington Hospital - Level 7 Fitout
Project Overview
Location:
New Zealand
Client:
Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand
Sector:
Public Healthcare
Completion:
Construction Completed 2024

The Level 7 fitout of the WRH building was designed to closely align with the proven clinical layout of Level 6 while responding to the unique spatial parameters of the 390m² floorplate.

Smart Spatial Planning and Design Efficiency

The plan successfully incorporates eight single rooms with shared ensuites, two single isolation rooms with individual ensuites, and one double room with a shared ensuite. These were laid out to maximise operational efficiency, infection control, and patient privacy. Isolation rooms are positioned at lowtraffic zones, while shared ensuite rooms are paired to minimise plumbing duplication and corridor congestion.

Streamlined Workflows and Staff Wellbeing Through Smart Zoning

Supporting clinical and staff areas — including the CNM interview room, clean and dirty utilities, a centrally located workroom, and a discreetly positioned reception/ward clerk area — have been thoughtfully arranged to streamline workflows and ensure staff visibility across the unit. A dedicated staff breakout space has been integrated to support staff wellbeing, providing a quiet, restorative zone away from the clinical environment. Overall, the design meets functional requirements while maintaining a clear, consistent approach to zoning, visibility, and patient-centred care.
